The territory of Euganei Hills is a volcanic origin and it rise on southwest in the central of the Po valley.
In the 1989 the Euganei Hills became a Regional Park; they have about 100 “altitude” where the height change from 20-30 meters in “Montesin” to 601 meters in the Mountain Venda, which they occupy an area of 22.000 hectare .
The Euganei Hills was formed in a period where in the Euganea area there was the sea and they are the conseguence of two volcanic events: the first was in the Eocene Superior, about 43 millions years ago, and then there was a break of circa 10 millions years. About 33 millions years ago there was the second volcanic events, the most important because in that occasion the exile lava was more gunk and formed of trachyte, rhyolite and volcanic stone and therefore the event gave origin to the rock-bound conformation that characterized the land of Euganei Hills.
The sedimentary stone, that are situated in this territory, in few cases, were perforated by some volcanics phenomenons and others only relieved, like the Red Ammonic which dating back to Jurassic Superior about 150 millions years ago, the Biancone Cretaceous Inferior about 90 millions years ago, the red Scale which dating back about 70 millions years ago and the marne euganee (stone) in the Oligocene and Eocene period of 50-30 millions years ago. Important is the descovery of “lens of nigrescent argillite” in Cava Bomba, that attributed the foundation of the Geo-palaeontology Museum of “Cava Bomba” in Cinto Euganeo.
The Euganei Hills offer a rainy climate with an annual temperature similar to the surrounding valley. In Winter the thermometer descend under zero with longer periods and often the valley offer beautiful daytimes with dry air and cloudless sky. In Summer the climate in the Hills is more parkly with minus humidity. There are important climate variations which they depend to the exposition and the inclination in the versants.
