The Siren of Lispida
The Siren of Lispida is a fanciful legend that explains the origin of the miraculous mund of the Euganei Hills.
-“ The young Count Manfredo of the Monticelli was tormented by a heavy shape of arthritis to the limbs that was causing the strongest pains. During a restless night, the Count dragged himself along up to the banks of the lake of Lispida, with the intention of putting end of his pains. While he was observing the waters of the lake, a beautiful siren emerges from the depth of the water and asked him ”Why are you so unhappy when everything is so beautiful?” Exceeded the astonishment for the apparition, the young Count talked to her about his pains. Without saying anything, the girl turned and plunged in the water, showing her tail covered with scales. The siren then returned to the surface, holding between the hands some mud hot and dark, coming from the depths of the lake. She covered the body with the Count singing a song. Once treated, the young man declared his eternal love to the siren and the two spent happy nights together, before the siren returned to Venice. The King of the Fauni, nevertheless, wanted to punish the siren to has united with a human being and he transformed her into woman, but unfortunately without providing her with a soul. The woman turned all the world to find a soul, as long as one day, while she was praying in the church of Saint Antonio in Padova, heard a voice that told her “You go to peace, your boyfriend will give you half of his soul”. She ran to the Count’s and the two lived together happy and glad: with one only soul in two bodies. ”-
From that day, the mud of the Euganei Hills has treated of the sicknesses of many persons.
The ghosts of the Castle of Monselice
In the Castle of Monselice, it tells about curious testimonies, that the ghosts that they revive the nights in the castle are quite three.
The first presence is Avalda, wife of Azzo d’ Este, who had to kidnap the fascination of a “trovatore” (poet, singer of the epoch) with who she passed some nights of love. When the husband discovered their passion, he chased her for the castle, killing her in the principal hall. From that day, the ghost of Avalda, little and pale entity, goes about the castle in search of his lover.
The second one is Jacopino‘s ghost from Carrara, imprisoned in the basements of the castle from his nephew Francesco from Carrara who was suspecting a plot against of him. His ghost, thin and limping, it is possible to find in the halls of the castle while he walks being supported by a stick.
The third ghost belongs to Giuditta, Jacopino’s lover, which was close in for have tried to corrupt Jacopino’s guard. It seems that her body wrapped in a blue dressing gown, goes about outside the castle on the road that it leads to the Sanctuary.
The ghosts of the Castle of Catajo
In the Castle of Catajo, there is instead the ghost of Lucrezia Dondi of the Watch, wife of Pius Enea II of the Obizzi. Lucrezia was killed in her bed by an admirer rejected in a cold night of November of 1654. Her ghost, also he wrapped in a blue dressing gown, appears from time to time in the halls of the castle.
